Take on the Rotorua Canopy Tours 10km Geothermal Traverse to see the most Run The Forest has to offer!

Set off through the steaming pools of the Whakarewarewa Living Māori Village into the manūka-lined trails leading into the towering redwoods. Meet your running mates at the finish line with refreshing beverages and live music to enjoy.

Elevation Gain: 93m flattish and fun

Start time: From 8:45am 
Start location: ​Froude Street Reserve 
Finish location: Wai Ariki Hot Spring & Spa

PARKING & Shuttles
Event Shuttle Bus
An optional paid-for shuttle bus service is available to participants from the finish location to the 10km start line. Use the self service links below to check your shuttle booking. The shuttle cost is $6.

  • Arrive 15 minutes before your shuttle bus departs,
  • Make sure you have your race bib on, this is your ticket to get on the bus!

Participants Parking
Parking is at the Village Green in the Rotorua CBD, just 200 metres from the finish line location. Participants must not park their cars at the start line venue for the duration of their race.

Spectator Parking
Your support crew can drop you off at the start line. Participants can not leave their cars at the start line venue - on street parking is available on and around Froude Street.
Start Waves
To ensure a safe and fair event for participants we have self seeded start waves. Be realistic and carefully choose your start waves. Timing and results is based on a mat to mat time.  The below details are based on the 2024 event and subject to change for 2025

Wave 1 8:45am Start-  expect finished time under 60mins
  • In this wave runners are aiming to have a great result, give it a crack and maybe try for a PB.

Wave 2 8:50am Start - expect finished time, 1:00 - 1:05hrs
  • In this wave runners are aiming to run whole course to set a good time

Wave 3 8:55am Start -  expect finished time, 1:05 - 1:25hrs
  • In this wave runners are aiming to run or jog the whole course

Wave 4 9:00am Start -  expect finished time, 1:25hrs plus
  • In this wave runners are to run and walk the course at their own pace

Wave 5 9:05am Start - The Party Wave - expect finished time, 1:50hrs plus
  • This start wave is for the runners and walkers who want to have a bit of a party or dance at the entertainment sites along the course
What to expect on Course 
The course is fully supported with event staff, volunteers, medics, drink stations & toilets.

Drink Stations
​​There will be drink stations on the course to support the participants. The aid stations will have PURE Sports Nutrition electrolytes, water and toilets. Cups are provided.
  • AS1 - 2.9 km
  • AS2 - 7.6 km

Check Points
​The course check points listed below are in the interest of participant safety. It is unlikely that this will affect your race however if you fall behind the timing checkpoints you will be removed from the event and classed as a non finisher. 
  • CP1 - 6.2km 11:34am
  • CP2 - Finish line 1:26pm 

Course Marking
The course is fully marked and there is very little navigation skills required. We use bright pink ribbons and arrows.
Finisher Medals & Prizes
All finishing participants will receive a finishers medal​.

​There is no prize giving ceremony at this event - it's simply too cold at this time of year.  ​Prizes are available for the top three male and female participants in each age group.

  • Prize Categories Run: U20 | 20-29 | 30-39 | 40-49 | 50-59 | 60 - 69 | 70+
  • Walk: Open

Participants who are eligible for the placing prizes must collect it from the information tent located at the finish line between 10:00am and 3:00pm.  Prize will not be posted out.  Other spot prize are given out in the lead up to the event.
Bag service
Run bag free.  Our drop bag service allows you to pack items you might need at the start line, but not for your run.and collect them at the finish line.  This might be a warm jacket, water or food for when you finish, or your wallet or purse. 

TIPS ON DROP BAGS 🟢
  • We only accept the pink event bags
  • We provide you a bag label to attach to the bag string.
  • You bag will be transported from the start line to the finish.
  • Please collect at the finish 3:00pm, any remaining gear bags will be donated to charity.​
